What is it about babies?

I have a thing for babies.  You probably do, too.

I’m drawn to them.

I guess it’s more of an obsession.

Lots of people have wondered about why this is…Darwin said we’re drawn to them because our attraction to infants helps the species survive.  Others have suggested that we respond instinctively to a baby’s unique features: their relatively large head and eyes, for instance.  Lately science has identified a specific area of the brain that fires up around infants, and helps to form the parent/child bond.  All this might be, but it certainly doesn’t explain why I’m gaga over babies of other sorts…

Just look at these baby turnips,

And those teeny potatoes—I roasted them with some olive oil and my homemade spice mix the other night.

How adorable are these little pumpkins—

And what about these little guys, they’re my latest baby obsession.  They’ll come in so handy when I need that extra kick in my fall baking, or in an after dinner coffee.  But to be honest I’m collecting them just because they’re so irresistible.
They look exactly like their parents…how cute.

Do you have an obsession with miniatures?  Do tell!

Yes, I too have an obsession with baby/miniatures. I have a collection of mini all white animal pitchers. I always buy baby vegetables when I see them. I just like the look of them. Cute post!!

How cute! How funny! I love the kitten looking down at the little mouse wit such a perplexed expression. How appropriate since we just came home from our local museum program where we helped the cutest little kids make the cutest little crafts. Watching a little child use scissors, for example, is precious.

I think that small food (veg, fish etc) are much more flavoursome – maybe all the flavour is concentrated into a smaller amount of food???

I looked after my sister’s baby the weekend before last – that has seen to my baby obsession for a while!!!!!

Well I actually have a baby to feed my obsession, but you are right, it is funny how we like minature anything, when I went to hospital to have my baby, I even took miniature size toiletries with me, and they are crazily expensive compared to their “parents”!
