Edible Cookie Dough that’s truly safe to eat ~ made without raw eggs and with commercially heat-treated flour, so you get classic cookie dough flavor and texture with none of the risk.

The Curious History of Edible Cookie Dough
Snacking on cookie dough used to be an innocent perk of baking ~ lick the spoon, sneak a bite, no second thoughts. Then came the food-safety wake-up calls. First, raw eggs (Salmonella). Later, and more surprisingly, raw flour, after E. coli outbreaks in the 2000s showed that flour itself can carry harmful bacteria.
Home cooks tried heating their own flour, but the FDA has since warned that this isn’t a reliable solution. Only commercially heat-treated flour is considered truly safe to eat without baking.
For years that meant cookie dough lovers were out of luck, since this kind of flour was sold only in huge industrial bags. But not anymore. I’ve finally found it in home-baker quantities ~ and that’s what makes this truly edible cookie dough possible.

No, you can’t heat treat your own flour
Important safety note, please read:
Most “edible cookie dough” recipes online tell you to simply heat your own flour in the oven or microwave. Even many big, well-known sites recommend this. However, the FDA and food safety authorities do not consider home heat-treating flour a reliable way to eliminate harmful bacteria like E. coli or Salmonella..
Small batch heat treated flour for home bakers
The only safe flour for edible cookie dough is commercially heat-treated under controlled conditions. That’s why this recipe uses professionally treated flour from a certified supplier.

Common questions
Traditional cookie dough is not safe because it contains raw eggs and raw flour, both of which can carry harmful bacteria. Edible cookie dough is safe when it’s made without eggs and with commercially heat-treated flour.
Flour is a raw agricultural product. It can be contaminated in the field or during processing with bacteria like E. coli or Salmonella, and it’s not safe to eat unless it’s been properly treated.
Heat-treated flour has been processed under controlled commercial conditions to kill potential pathogens. This is different from home-heating, which is uneven and unreliable.
No. The FDA does not consider home oven or microwave treatment a dependable food-safety method. Temperatures are inconsistent and may not reach levels needed to eliminate bacteria throughout the flour.
Yes ~ same brown sugar, vanilla, butter, and chocolate chip flavor, same soft scoopable texture. The only thing missing is the risk.
No ~ this dough is designed for eating, not baking. It contains no eggs and uses sweetened condensed milk, so it won’t behave like traditional cookie dough in the oven.
If you’re craving actual baked cookies, use a classic cookie recipe. This one is all about that raw, spoonable, straight-from-the-bowl experience ~ safely.
