14 Irresistible Sheet Cakes ~ from Texas to Maine and back, sheet cakes are a summer staple and I love them! Whether it’s a birthday, a barbecue, a wedding, a picnic or a potluck, you need to have a great sheet cake recipe at the ready.
Is it just me or does everybody have the fantasy about making a sheet cake for a party but the party gets canceled and you’re left hanging with a giant fabulous sheet cake all to yourself?…ok so maybe it’s just me, but you have to admit there’s something about a sheet cake that brings out the hungry kid in all of us. They’re big, they’re festive, they come in all sorts of flavors and colors, they’re snack-able…and did I mention they’re big?
Whether you make yours in a half sheet, a full sheet, or just your trusty 9×13 pan, sheet cakes are one of the best things about summer. Here’s how sheet pans break down in terms of size, and remember, the correct way to measure your pans is from outer edge to outer edge:
Full Sheet Pan:
- Dimensions:Â 18 x 26 inches
Half Sheet Pan:
- Dimensions:Â 18 x 13 inches
Quarter Sheet Pan:
- Dimensions:Â 13 x 9 inches

ZUCCHINI SHEET CAKE WITH CREAM CHEESE FROSTING
This is one of the best cakes I’ve ever made! I followed your instructions to a T, even though I’d never added lemon juice to cream cheese frosting before. This was made for visiting family. No one could stop eating it, and everyone raved about it! Better flavors if it sits a day. We absolutely loved it!

CHOCOLATE SHEET CAKE
This works beautifully in half for an 8×8 yield! So nice to have such a quick, easy, and dependable very chocolate cake.

WHITE TEXAS SHEET CAKE
I didn’t know you could bake a boxed cake mix in a sheet pan, I think I’m going to be making sheet cakes all summer long!

YELLOW SHEET CAKE WITH FUDGE FROSTING
I love a moist yellow cake that hangs right on the edge of a pound cake texture. When I was a kid my mother always made “Starlight Cake” from the original Betty Crocker cookbook. I compare every yellow cake to it for homemade flavor. Just reading this recipe’s ingredients, I know this is going to be a go to recipe.

PUMPKIN PRALINE CAKE
I have quite a few go- to pumpkin recipes that I think are stellar. But I totally trust Sue so I decided to make this one. My family could not get over the taste and said this is the pumpkin recipe to make. I asked – better than the others? They said yes! It’s all about the frosting. I may try it in a brownie. Once again Sue steered me straight. Thanks.

First off, Happy Mother’s Day…I made this cake last night for Mother’s Day today…it is amazing, I‘m not kidding, it’s the best lemon cake I’ve ever made/tasted.
Heading up the cookie ministry for my church……three services on Sunday and one on Wednesday night. The Sunday services are full, probably 300 or so people with 150 on Wednesday. I won’t be the only person baking but sheet cakes seem the best way to go so I am thrilled to find your website! Wish me luck, not only withe baking but with getting enough volunteers to pitch in. I think if I provide several recipes so they can find one they feel capable of doing, with a little help from the Lord, all should go well. Fingers crossed!
