My Favorite Lemon Dessert Recipes ~ winter is high citrus season, and there are few things I love more than a good lemon dessert. Sweet, tangy, and delicious, these are my very favorite lemon recipes from the blog.
I’ve long sung the praises of citrus here on the blog ~ I love every variety out there, and I especially love how citrus can transform everyday recipes. But there’s something particularly tempting about the combination of lemon and sugar (if you ask me, a spoonful of fresh lemon curd is just about the ultimate treat) so I’ve rounded up my favorite lemon desserts from over the years to help you make the most of this wonderful season 🙂
Warm Lemon Pudding Cakes
This magical dessert can be made gluten free (or not) by substituting almond flour for regular flour. One batter separates into a soft lemon sponge cake layer over a delicious warm lemon pudding layer. Swoon!
Lemon Tart with Poppyseed Shortbread Crust
There are a lot of lemon tart recipes out there, but I’m partial to this creamy lemon filling because it’s so easy to make ~ whisk everything together, strain into a tart shell, and baked in the oven. It comes out smooth and tangy. The poppy seed shortbread crust is a nice bonus 🙂
Lemon Yogurt Cake
This classic Italian lemon cake can work for so many occasions ~ it’s a perfect breakfast or brunch cake, but it’s equally well suited to accompany an afternoon cup of coffee, and can easily transform into dessert with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Fresh Lemon Ice Cream
The flavor of this lemon ice cream is incredibly bright and fresh. Sometimes cream can dull the tangy taste of citrus, but everything is perfectly balanced in this recipe so you get a great mixture of tart and creamy.
Lemon Layer Cake with Lemon Poppy Seed Buttercream
This cake takes the well-loved combination of lemon and poppy seed and turns it into a show stopping layer cake. I love this cake for spring and summer gatherings (it makes an unexpectedly lovely birthday cake.)
Scottish Lemon Sugar Shortbread
Buttery shortbread is pretty darn good on its own, but I’ve elevated it with a fresh lemon flavor. In this recipe it’s all about the zest, where most of the ‘lemony’ flavor is found.
Would love a lemon no churn icecream please.
I’ve been meaning to develop one, Joy. I’ll do it this year for sure!
I love lemon almost as much as I do cranberries. Just happen to have 4 or 5 Meyer lemon in my refrigerator, now must decide which to make first. Decisions, decisions decisions. Keep the recipes coming, Sue, you never disappoint.
I’m with you on lemon and cranberries, there’s nothing better!
Thank you so much Sue 🙂 I love any citrus flavor and few of your recipes are now in my file. I’m going out to get lemons for the ice cream! I will let you know how it came out. Thanks again, Liliane 🙂
Hope you love the ice cream, Liliane
