âž¡ Roast the pecans first to bring out an incredible toasty flavor.
âž¡ Blend the nuts until they break down into a silky butter.
âž¡ Add salt to taste and that’s it!

What you’ll need for pecan butter
Raw pecans
- be sure to source raw pecans. I got mine at Costco but you should find them at your regular grocery store as well, usually in the baking aisle.
- Pecans make an especially luxurious nut butter because they’re naturally high in fat and relatively soft, so they blend into an incredibly smooth, silky spread. Roasting brings out their buttery, almost caramel-like flavor, which is why pecan butter tastes so rich.
Salt
- I use sea salt, it actually does taste better than table salt.
Blender or food processor
- a high speed blender is ideal, but you can definitely make nut butters in a food processor, and even in a mini food processor.

Sue’s pecan butter tips
Start with a minimum of 3 cups of raw pecans. Why? I recommend using at least 3 cups of pecans so there’s enough volume for the blades to grab the nuts and keep them moving as they grind.
Roast the nuts first! Why? Roasting does two things: it deepens the flavor and helps the nuts release their oils more readily, so they grind into butter faster and more smoothly.
Give your machine time to break down the nuts. Scrape down the sides as needed and keep processing until the butter starts to liquify and takes on a glossy sheen.
Don’t forget to add salt. Salt really brings out that toasty pecan flavor.

How to roast your nuts for pecan butter
Oven method: Just spread them on a dry baking sheet and roast in a 350 degree oven for about 15 minutes, stirring often to prevent them from burning.
Microwave method: spread the nuts in a single layer on a plate (you will have to do this in batches) and microwave on high for 2 minutes.
