How to Make Homemade Nutella Liqueur ~ ever since my recent DRINKABLE NUTELLA recipe I’ve been obsessed with the idea of making the famous chocolate hazelnut spread into a decadent beverage. This easy diy chocolate liqueur is my latest (spiked!) version ~ it’s to die for.
I rarely get this excited about writing up a post, but this easy recipe for homemade chocolate liqueur is so incredibly delicious I just couldn’t wait to press ‘publish’!
Everyone who tasted it agreed it’s a winner. I think that’s because the proportions are perfect, it’s not too sweet, not too thick, with just the right alcoholic content so that it doesn’t overpower. And most importantly of all, that fabulous Nutella flavor comes shining through. We all agreed this has lots of possibilities for delicious applications well beyond ‘straight up’ or ‘on the rocks’. We think it would be amazing with ice cream, or blended up with ice cream into an adult cocktail milkshake. Or in an after dinner coffee.
Homemade liqueur is very easy to do, and I think it makes the perfect ‘from my kitchen‘ holiday gift. I guarantee no one will re-gift a bottle of this Nutella liqueur, and you will no doubt get repeat requests for it year after year.
Nutella is one of those foods that is impossible to resist. If I have a jar in the house I will finish it off, spoonful by delicious spoonful, that’s all there is to it. So I keep a growing collection of favorite recipes that I can turn to before I can polish it off 😉  Search ‘Nutella’ on my blog and you’ll come up with some goodies like my NUTELLA S’MORES BARS, and my BANANA CAKE WITH NUTELLA BUTTERCREAM…yum!
This recipe couldn’t be simpler, which makes it a great one for everyone to try. Check out the video below to see what I mean. There are no special skills or equipment involved, and I think it’s the ultimate holiday gift. You’ll just need some cream, some inexpensive vodka, and of course a jar of Nutella.
The only other thing you’ll need is a bottle to put your homemade Nutella liqueur into. You can recycle a pretty one you already have, or purchase one. Just make sure it has a tight fitting top. Flip top bottles like the ones I used are ideal, and you can get them on Amazon, here. They make a pretty presentation and you can use them again and again.
My HOMEMADE IRISH CREAM and my HOMEMADE PUMPKIN SPICE LIQUEUR are similar recipes, but this Nutella liqueur is somewhat lighter in consistency. If you’re looking for the perfect gift for a special friend, make them a sampler of all three 🙂
Do me a favor, next time you’re invited somewhere, make up a batch of this homemade Nutella liqueur and bring it along…then let me know how it goes. I made a video to show you just how easy this is ~
How to Make Homemade Nutella Liqueur
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup Nutella
- 1 cup vodka, no need to get anything expensive
Instructions
- Warm the cream on the stove or in the microwave, just until it comes to a simmer.
- Add the Nutella and let it sit for a minute, then whisk gently to combine. Keep mixing until the two are completely blended. Those little specks of Nutella will eventually melt into the cream and the mixture should look silky smooth. You can warm the mixture a little bit if you have trouble getting the Nutella to completely incorporate, but you shouldn't need to.
- Stir in the vodka and mix completely. Then pour into a clean bottle.
- Refrigerate. The liqueur will keep for 2-3 weeks in the refrigerator.

Love this cute idea and it would make a perfect holiday gift! Thanks, Sue.
I’m not sure it would keep two months in my fridge!
I agree…no way!
Wow! I’m amazed by this recipe Sue! Will definitely try it. Asap!
What a wonderful Christmas/holiday gift idea! Can’t wait to make a batch or two.
Definitely make more than one batch, Becky 😉
Well! You made me very happy. I never would have thought to make liqueur out of nutella.
I love the idea of this so much!! Do you think full fat coconut milk would work?
I do, and I bet it would be delicious! The only thing to keep in mind is that the coconut flavor will compete a little bit with the Nutella.
This sounds absolutely amazing! What a perfect gift for the holiday!
You can’t go wrong with this, it’s cheap, easy, and incredibly delicious! Thanks for stopping by Sarah 🙂
This is one of those times you wonder how no one thought of this before – combining so many amazing things into one. And I agree with the idea of putting into into coffee, fantastic!
It could get habit forming, for sure.
Omgosh, this is brilliant!!! I want to put some in my coffee…and go sit by a fire. And I don’t usually like flavoring my coffee, but the combo sounds delicious. Perfect for the holidays, Sue 🙂
It’s even better than you can imagine, Traci, and I’m with you on the coffee, I take mine black, but I make an exception for this!
