make this strawberry salsa your signature recipe this season
Strawberries are at their peak right now, so go for it. If you got a barbecue or potluck to go to this strawberry salsa is going to be your best friend. It’s distinctive and I bet no one’s had it before. It’s sweet, tangy, and spicy ~ it’s got it all going on.
I like to think outside the box as often as I can and come up with combinations I don’t see at the supermarket. It really does seem, with a few exceptions (hello bananas) that most fruits make amazing salsas. It shouldn’t surprise you because, technically tomato is a fruit.
So far some of my favorites have been Pineapple Salsa, Watermelon Salsa and Cantaloupe Salsa, but Mango and Citrus salsas will always be my favorite favorites. If you love salsa as much as I do, try some of these others, and then come up with some of your own!
what you’ll need to make strawberry salsa
- fresh strawberries
- it goes without saying that your salsa will only be as good as your strawberries, so source the best seasonal berries.
- red onion
- every salsa need some red onion, in this case it adds a welcome bite and counters the sweetness of the berries.
- fresh cilantro
- cilantro is essential for the depth of flavor in this salsa. If you’re a cilantro-phobe, then you might try basil.
- jalapeño pepper
- this is optional but, like the cilantro, it really adds complexity to this sweet salsa.
- fresh lime
Please don’t get out your measuring cups for this strawberry jalapeño salsa because, really, you can just chop, drop, and taste as you go. The amounts in the recipe card below are just rough guidelines to help get you started.
TIPS FOR MAKING STRAWBERRY JALAPEÑO SALSA
- Use red ripe berries and your results will be incredible.
- If your strawberries are on the sour side and your salsa tastes too tart, add a bit of sugar.
- Don’t make this much more than an hour or so before serving. Like all salsas, it will wilt and the fruit will get a little mushy. An hour is the optimal amount of time for the flavors to meld and the juices to start flowing. Longer than that and the salsa will slowly start to lose its fresh appearance.
- If you plan to serve your salsa with chips, make sure to chop your berries fairly small.
- Strawberry salsa is a wonderful topping for tacos, fish, shrimp, or steak. See my Salmon with Berry Salsa.
strawberries, strawberries, strawberries!
“I suck at coming up with my own recipes, but I am a champ at following them. We had a salsa contest at work and I decided to try making this. It is SO GOOD! I wanted it to be more salsa-y, so I threw everything into the Ninja and blended it up. IT WON!” ~ Steph

Is there any way to make this a few days in advance and still have it kept for over a long weekend? I’d like to be able to make it say on a Wednesday and keep it in a mason Jar refrigerated until Sunday. Do you think it would keep during that time or will it go nasty? I just like to make my homemade syrups and things ahead of time so that when we are at the cottage I can relax but we are still able to have delicious nutritious homemade foods. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m thinking perhaps some apple cider vinegar may help to preserve it a little longer but I don’t want to change the taste too much. Any ideas?
Cut fruit in any form, either in salsa or salad, doesn’t keep very well, I’m afraid. But the good thing is, this is really a snap to put together, there’s nothing to it!

So glad to hear it Bree ~ this is an oldie but goodie 🙂
Love this recipe but, not really a fan of cilantro – could it work with parsley instead?
Totally would work!
Made this with some spicy honey because the jalapeno I used didn’t have much heat. I also blended it in a food processor just a little. It was so good!!
Jalapeños can be so disappointing sometimes…I love the idea of blending this a bit, I bet that brings out the juices.
Wow, that salsa is so beautiful!
Thank you!
Love your recipe with strawberry so much!
This salsa would be an absolute game-changer when paired with halibut!
How creative! I am going to try as soon as I can get my hands on some good strawberries. June is just around the corner! Can’t wait.
Thanks Ksenia!
Could you please share the exact calories per serving for your delicious looking salsa? That would be so helpful 🙂
I’m so sorry I don’t have the exact info for this recipe, Joylyn, but it is very low, considering the ingredients!
