Creamy Vidalia Onion Dip is a deliciously irresistible update of the classic onion soup mix dip that we all grew up eating. I lightened it up and added lots of fresh minced sweet onionĀ ~ sorry mom, but this is sooooo much better!
Onion dips are some of the most irresistibly delicious foods out there. My original baked Sweet Vidalia Onion Dip is one of the more popular recipes on my site, and understandably so, it doesn’t get much better than sweet onions baked up in a hot cheesy dip. Let’s call this the summer version…no baking, just blend, chill and serve. Scoop it up with crisp celery or Fritos…it’s your call.
The silky sour cream and yogurt base is so cool and refreshing that everybody will literally dive bomb the bowl, so be sure to make extra.
The original mid-century style French onion dip was made by mixing a tub of sour cream with a packet of dry onion soup mix. It’s a great dip, but…let’s just say it was begging for a refresh. I lighten up the sour cream with Greek yogurt, and add minced sweet Vidalia onion and lots of snipped chives ~ it makes all the difference, I could eat this for days…
TIP: If you can’t find Lipton’s Dry Onion Soup Mix, you can actually cobble together your own right from your spice cabinet…here’s a recipe.
sweet Vidalia onions are famous for being so mild you can eat them raw just like an apple.
Lots of grocery stores will stock Vidalias in season (early spring to early summer) but out of season you can always find generic sweet onions, which will work just fine. Look for them right next to the yellow, white, and red onions. They have a ‘squat’ shape and extra thin, papery, outer skin.
