Whipped cottage cheese is something new in the breakfast and snacking world, and my whipped cottage cheese parfaits are a fun way to get to know it
what’s whipped cottage cheese?
It’s fresh cottage cheese whipped in a blender to a super silky creamy texture. Once whipped it can be turned into a savory dip, a silky smoothie, or a decadent breakfast like my whipped cottage cheese parfaits.
why would you want to whip cottage cheese?
Let’s face it cottage cheese is, well…lumpy. For some of us that’s fine, but for others it’s a turnoff. But when you whip cottage cheese you make it super silky and creamy ~ no more lumps! And once whipped, cottage cheese can be used to make all kinds of goodies where lumps wouldn’t be welcome 🙂

cottage cheese vs yogurt
Cottage cheese is a super healthy high protein food that’s gone in and out of fashion in recent decades ~ here’s how it stacks up against yogurt:
- Cottage cheese is higher in protein than Greek yogurt with 14 grams per 1/2 cup.
- But it’s also higher in sodium so it has a slightly salty flavor.
- It’s milder, without the sharp tang of yogurt.
- What about probiotics ~ in recent years, some cottage cheese brands have started adding live and active cultures to meet growing consumer demand for gut-friendly foods. Brands like Good Culture, Nancy’s, and Kalona SuperNatural now offer probiotic-rich versions, similar to yogurt.

whipped cottage cheese parfait ingredients
- cottage cheese
- use whatever type and brand you like. I used a small curd local brand which was not lowfat. If gut health is important to you choose a probiotic-rich cottage cheese, look for labels stating “live and active cultures” to ensure you’re getting the added gut health benefits.
- fruit
- I used jarred cherries. I love sour cherries, in particular Amarena cherries, so I used those. Look for Amarena cherries at Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Cost Plus World Market, and gourmet stores.
- crunchy granola
- sliced almonds
optional ingredients
- honey
- almond or vanilla extract (just a tiny bit.)

whip it up
- Place cottage cheese in your blender or food processor. Blend until smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides of the machine once or twice. Note: a high speed blender will make the silkiest texture.
- Taste and add a touch of honey or a drop of almond or vanilla extract if you like.
- You can use your whipped cottage cheese right away, or chill it for several hours to thicken it up.
- I like to pack it into a large jar and use throughout the week. It will last up 5 -7 days in the fridge.

the bottom line
Whipped cottage cheese might just win me over where regular cottage cheese never could. And these whipped cottage cheese parfaits are healthy in an oddly decadent way. I mean yes, it’s cheese, but it’s so creamy. And when it comes to fruit, it doesn’t get any more decadent than Amarena cherries 🙂

I like cottage cheese ‘lumpy’ but whipped sounds lovely. Don’t know about finding Amarena Cherries but I’m sure I can find something else. Can’t wait to sample for breakfast!
Look for those cherries Mary, you won’t regret it 😉
