Brownies made from an AI bot ~ this artificial intelligence generated recipe for brownies turned out just the way I love them!
AI recipe for brownies
Where did you get your brownie recipes? Maybe it’s your grandma’s, or maybe you rely on your go-to chef (Chrissy? Nigella?) There’s the Joy of Cooking, a gallery of Google pics, or you can type ‘brownies‘ into the search bar of your favorite recipe blog 🙂
Guess where I got mine ~ from a bot! It’s a brave new world, and I’m testing out my AI generated recipe today. I’m also kind of hangry, so let’s get baking!

The cast of characters is completely familiar, and like most brownies this recipe was super easy to whip up.
- butter
- sugar
- eggs

- flour
- cocoa powder
- chocolate chips

how is an AI recipe for brownies generated?
Brownies are actually a good test of early AI recipe creation capabilities because the ingredients are limited and the proportions are generally similar. An AI recipe generator works by using machine learning algorithms to analyze and learn from a large database of existing recipes. The algorithms identify patterns and relationships between ingredients, cooking methods, and recipe outcomes to generate new recipes based on a set of inputs such as ingredients, dietary restrictions, or particular cuisine.
In this case I simply typed in “recipe for brownies” to an open source AI writer. I could refresh as many times as I liked for a new recipe, but for this experiment I went with the first one to come up. Hopefully it doesn’t just spit out a random combination of ingredients, but rather a ‘thoughtfully considered’ new recipe for me to test.

conclusion: was my AI brownie recipe good?
Yes! My brownies came out with a nice, shiny, slightly crackly surface, just the way I like them. They have a pronounced chocolatey aroma. They have a fudgy rather than cakey) consistency, and a tendency to fall apart when I tried to remove a warm slice. But that’s also the way I like my brownies 🙂 They have good chocolate flavor and, like most homemade brownies, they taste way better than anything from a box. Not sure what more I could ask for, so my AI recipe gets a thumbs up. I would make these brownies again!
But would I turn to AI recipes in the future? Probably not. I could have had beginner’s luck, and one important flaw is that an AI generated recipe is not tested (or tasted!) so you bake at your own risk. That can be a lot of fun, but you wouldn’t want to rely on it for anything important.
I’ll stick with my own recipe generating skills for the time being 🙂 But hey ~ at least I’ve got a brand new brownie recipe to add to my collection!

Notes
- I would not fold in the cocoa powder in step 8 ~ I would whisk the cocoa powder with the flour in step 2.Â
- The toothpick test is not especially accurate for brownies and risks overbaking.
- These brownies are very much on the fudgy side, if you like them a bit less moist, add 1/4 cup extra flour.

The idea of AI is pretty scary but impressive. Would I want my food writing to be replaced by AI?A hearty NO! But if can help me get creative juices going with what I have in my pantry when I’m stuck for ideas, it could just be the kick in the butt I need.
I made them! Oh goodness, I only used the recipe, Sue, because you did and I thought that was so fun of you. I added the cocoa to flour as you suggested and they have come out brilliantly. It’s not like any of us need another brownie recipe but I thought it was so enterprising of you. In fact, I always make “Uncle Ghirardelli’s” recipe and without fail someone asks for the family recipe and are so surprised it’s a box. But the AI recipe is a keeper. Serving tonight w ice cream. I tasted a corner so there’s an empty space in the pan. I’ve made SO many of your recipes, Sue and really love your website/blog. Thanks for all you do.
While I’m not loving the changes I believe will be brought about by AI, I loved that you did this!
How interesting, an AI recipe. I mean if you search for a basic recipe it surely can provide but don’t we love a special touch and a little creative flair? I’m a bit worried about those AI-generated recipes as a creator but glad you went on and experiment with it.
